Als Summon (Beschwörung, Herbeirufung) oder auch Servitor (Diener) bezeichnet man eine heraufbeschworene Kreatur, die sich dem Rufer gegenüber als loyal verhält und ihm zu diensten steht.

Das Wort selbst ist ein besonders im MMORPG-Bereich seit Jahren gängiger Anglizismus, wodurch sich die Uneinigkeit des Artikels erklären lässt ("der/die/das Summon"). Am gebräuchlichsten ist jedoch die männliche Form ("der/ein Summon").

Summon vs. Pet

Ein Summon unterscheidet sich sowohl funktional als auch prinzipiell von einem Pet und einem Agathion, da ein Summon:

  • im Prinzip eine klassenabhängige Macht darstellt, die man heraufbeschwören muß (ein Pet ist ein gezähmtes, klassenunabhängiges Haustier)
  • ein erlernter Skill ist (Pets werden durch ein Item herbeigerufen und sind damit sogar oft verkauf-/tauschbar)
  • kein eigenes Inventar besitzt (Pets haben eines)
  • "blank" ist (Pets sind oft ausrüstbar)
  • nicht reitbar ist (einige Pets können als Reittier dienen)
  • nur als Skill-Level steigerbar ist und ggf. enchantet werden kann (Pets bekommen Exp und sind damit auch zu leveln)
  • als Quasi-Skill ein Zeitlimit haben (Pets benötigen Futter, um nicht zu verhungern bzw. zu verschwinden)
  • vom NPC "Adventurer's Guide" gebufft werden kann (Pets bekommen dort aber keine Buffs)
